Tonight was our city’s annual Christmas tree lighting, although it felt more like a balmy summer night instead! It’s been raining for days here in Georgia, and with the promise of a soggy, warm winter’s night ahead, we decided to join the masses celebrating the holiday season in downtown Alpharetta. It was unexpectedly busy (since it sprinkled on and off throughout the event, occasionally clearing the crowds), and even though it was more wintery and Christmas-y last year, tonight again reminded Ryan and I why we’re living out here in the ‘burbs. We ran into long lost acquaintances, not-so-lost friends, ate yummy food truck BBQ (after waiting forever in line–for the love, people, hungry pregnant lady on the loose!), enjoyed music and listened to the traditional reading of “‘Twas the Night Before Christmas” by the city’s mayor. Overall, the energy was high (just like the temperature) and the spirit was festive. Emma Vance sailed happily right through her bedtime, feeding on the energy of the event, and Ryan and I decided to ditch our scarves and sweaters and instead welcomed the break from the freezing cold. Hey, that’s December in the South for ya’! :)
