Seven-Year-Old Style(d)

It feels like I’m always photographing something or other in life, and it seems that the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. (Even at seven!)

Since she’s been showing a lot of interest in my photography projects lately, it came as no surprise when Cricket had a lot to say about her birthday pictures this year. From her outfit — a 90s-inspired dress and the coolest hand-me-down (read: the kid version of vintage) high tops — to the composition and poses, it was clear that Cricket had a vision for how she wants to remember herself at this moment in time. (To be honest, I can claim very little credit for these images; she was legit art directing her own photographs.)

I can’t help but smile looking at these pictures — at one point I wasn’t getting the photo she was describing, so she literally took the camera, posed me in her place, and shot an example image so that I could get it right. And I couldn’t have been prouder. That’s my girl!

Happy birthday, Cricket — my talented, tiny creative.
