Christmas Storytime + Goldilocks

Why is it always my kid? ;)

Tonight E.V.’s sweet preschool held a Christmas Storytime, complete with pajamas and chocolate milk. It was an adorable idea for an event, and we were all really looking forward to it. However, what I didn’t realize is that a small note on the flyer about bringing blankets and pillows was actually key to my child’s having a good time. Like a half-effort family, we showed up with an infant muslin blanket (really, I thought, just to kinda’ claim a spot for ourselves), but everyone else showed up with the coolest (read: Frozen and Disney Princess) sleeping bags, blankets, pillows and stuffed animals — which was great…for them. For me? Not so much. My toddler, who is already nicknamed “The Runner” at school, did just that: She ran around. Constantly. My little Goldilocks had to try out every empty sleeping bag available, snuggling down into strangers’ beds happily and adopting others’ teddy bears as her own. I felt so bad, chasing her around, trying to whisper apologies and reprimands without causing too much of a scene. :/ I’m fairly certain that the only time she sat still was for the opening prayer (now that’s a win, right??) and when they sang “There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly,” and even for that she insisted on being front and center. I mean, truthfully, Emma Vance cracks me up and I can’t complain too much because, well, I suppose there are worse things in the world than having a free-spirited kid. I just wish that at least once in a while I could count on her to sit still and be patient. Sigh. At least we all had a good time, even if we did annoy the snot out of everyone else there? (Oops. Sorry, schoolmates!) ;)
