Surprise! Change is HERE!

Why “funny/beautiful?” Well, it’s simple: That’s what I write about.

This blog is about our lives, about cataloguing our lives, and it’s filled with all the precious moments that, with the absence of being written down, would otherwise fade in my memory. In thinking about having outgrown the title “And Then There Were Three,” I read through almost all 400 of my previous posts, and it occurred to me late one night: Each of these moments either made me want to laugh or to cry. I’m a bit of a whimsical realist (Is that a thing? Well, it is now.), where I have these weepy, over-flowing-heart moments scattered in between the craziness of trying to survive parenthood (i.e. poop), and, really, at the end of the day, I realized that those are the moments worth remembering–the funny ones, the beautiful ones, and (most often) the ones that are both.

And now for one of those bleeding-heart moments. “And Then There Were Three” has such a special place in my heart. (Don’t cry. Don’t cry. Don’t cry.) It will always be a tangible place for me where the first two years of parenthood, the first two years of creating our little family, were documented. It was a place for me to revel in the wonders and woes of being pregnant for the first time and to capture the first year of Emma Vance’s little life. I will always hold in my heart the memory of how it felt to open up that yellow and gray space late in the evening while E.V. slumbered in her pack ‘n play across the room, how it was such a relief for me to get into words how I was feeling with my firstborn at my feet, how desperate I felt at times to record some tiny, seemingly insignificant moment that had made my day. I know I’m moving onto a new place that will eventually hold the same stature in my heart, but I never was good at goodbyes…especially when it comes to saying goodbye to a tangible phase in my life.

So what’s next? Well, more of the same, plus a little new. My intentions for “funny/beautiful” are easy: I’ll be posting about our daily lives like usual, continuing on with the obnoxious amounts of baby photos here in an effort to not to clog up my personal Facebook page with them (true story), and along the way, there’s sure to be a few new features. ;) I hope you all continue to join Ryan, E.V., Baby #2 and I on this adventure (i.e. life) by reading along and following “funny/beautiful” on social media (if that’s your thing), but most of all I hope sharing our lives gives you cause to laugh–and sometimes to cry along with me (because everyone needs a good friend to laugh and cry with once in a while, right?).

Welcome!
