What Is “Bohemian Indian Summer?!?” (E.V.’s 2nd Birthday Party)

A HUGE thank you to Meg Davidson for capturing our event so well! www.megdavidsonphotography.com

Sometimes I get these ideas. (When they’re good I call them “visions,” and when they’re bad, well, no comment.) I can see how these visions play out in my mind, but if I try to explain my ideas to people…well, let’s just say that they don’t always translate well into words. ;)

I told Ryan several months ago that I had picked a theme for E.V.’s birthday party — Bohemian Indian Summer. What in the world is “Bohemian Indian Summer?” I tried to paint a mental picture for him, but to no avail. I asked him to just trust me, and he did. (As if he had much choice! Ha!) And then, over the next few months, anytime my friends or family would ask the theme of the upcoming event, I’d confidently respond, “Bohemian Indian Summer!” with a grin. {insert blank stare. LOTS of blank stares.} I was on my own for this idea, but it made sense in my head.

So what IS Bohemian Indian Summer?

Well, since I made it up, I figure I get to define it ;), so here it is: lots of colors — BOLD jewel-toned colors and black and white; arrow and feather motifs; teepees painted in tribal-esque prints, adorned with fabric scraps and dangling carnations, and set upon a comfy floor of mismatched pillows; desert flowers paired with fragile summer peonies; mix ‘n match patterns with a vintage, floral-and-hippie flair; gold glitter x a bajillion; modernized dream catchers; painted antlers in a variety of color throughways; oversized felt flower crowns; hand-drawn (temporary) tattoos for toddlers; aztec-print headbands; natural naked cakes topped with berries and lush florals. Pretty much everything that summers should be filled with, in my opinion. :)

Still confused? Don’t worry, here’s a million pictures to clarify, because, of course, a picture is worth a million words! :)

P.S. In case you can’t tell from these pictures, I’m cake-obsessed. Sorry I’m not sorry.

This is AMAZInG! I love the theme. Now I am imagining how I can turn this somehow into a boy theme for Henry’s birthday in August…..
